The beautiful and much expected lunar eclipse took take place on February 20/21, 2008. Typically, New Yorkers created an event around viewing, gathering in parks and on rooftops to catch a glimpse.
When the eclipse started the Earth's shadow first began to obstruct sunlight illuminating the full moon. Later, a reddish haze covered the entire face of the moon. The full eclipse lasted for about 52 minutes.
One didn't need a telescope view the lunar eclipse. One only had to look to the sky to witness one of nature's rare phenomenons.
If you missed it, enjoy the photos until Dec. 21, 2010, when the next lunar eclipse will occur.
