IFC Creates More Opportunities for African Women
Women from all over Africa gathered recently at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) headquarters in Washington D.C to share success stories of IFC’s gender program in Africa. Specific case studies came from countries like Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Nigeria, and discussed improvements and opportunities in sectors such as banking, manufacturing, leasing, agriculture, access to finance and investment.
IFC is a social enterprise, fostering sustainable economic growth in developing countries by financing private sector investment, mobilizing capital in the international financial markets, and providing advisory services to businesses and governments. Supporting women in business is an important part of this effort. It is also an integral part of the World Bank Group’s Gender Action Plan.
IFC provides financial products and advisory services to increase access to finance for women entrepreneurs, reduce gender-based barriers in the business environment, and improve the sustainability of IFC investment projects.
