Kano Durbar 2008

The Durbar or Hawan Sallah as is locally called is a royal parade of thousands of men on horses adorned with garmentd and regalia. It is a colourful display of culture full of pomp and pageantry. A spectcular traditional concert of and bazaar of African music. The durbar festival dates back hundreds of years when horses were used in warfare in the Hausa City of Northern Nigeria. It was a “show of Forces” by the military chiefs and demonstration of readiness for war and affirmation of allegiance and loyalty to the Emir by the different regiments.
