The Ai Index Series Summit in association with NYSE Euronext, to be held on the 15th SEPTEMBER 2008 was launched to an unprecedented turnout of over 300 high level institutions, which included Coca Cola, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, Investec, Citibank and Merrill Lynch amongst others at its launch event on the 29th of April at the New York Stock Exchange. The Launch demonstrated the high interest from global emerging market investors in Africa’s vibrant capital Markets, which have consistently delivered high returns despite the global market downturn.

Allan Kamau, Managing Director, Africa Investor said “We are very pleased by the high level & escalating interest in the Africa Investor Investable Index Series and anticipate an even higher turnout at the Ai Index series Summit on 15th September at NYSE. We have no doubt based on current interest in the Ai Index Series which tracks over $600billion of market capitalisation for Africa’s top performing 100 companies, the upcoming Summit will mark a historic partnership between Wall Street investors’ & Ai 100 constituent companies”.

Teresa Clark Ellis, Managing Director of Investment Banking, Goldman Sachs’s explained in the recently premiered Africa Investment Horizon film “Typically, one gets high returns where there is little information and little competition…The capital markets in Africa are a fraction of the size of the more developed markets…However in the last few years we’ve seen substantial returns outpacing those in the developed markets by a large measure”.

These amongst other issues will be discussed at the Ai Index series Summit in September at which Africa Investor (Ai) and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Euronext have joined forces to host an Annual Ai Index Series Summit to facilitate the opportunities between Africa Investors best performing constituent companies & Wall Street & global emerging markets. The Summit aims to profile African companies and institutional investment opportunities to Wall Street.  The event will bring together Investment Banks, Security Houses, Investment/Asset Management Firms, Sovereign wealth Funds, Hedge Funds, Pension Funds, Exchanges, Brokers, Consultancy & Advisory Firms, and Regulators from Central Banks, International Regulators & Government Agencies.

Gregg Krowitz, Managing Director, Strategy/US International Listings, New York Stock Exchange opened the evening by saying “The NYSE has a longstanding support for Africa and proudly hosted Nelson Mandela in 2002. We are pleased to be partnering with Africa Investor in hosting the Ai Index Series Summit & Awards in September to help raise the profile of African businesses on Wall Street”

The Ai Index Series Summit is sponsored by Oceanic Bank and the NEPAD Business Group.
